Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour organiser Knysna Speed Festival together with partners Wesgro, Visit Knysna and PSG Wealth Insure, has taken the event into the virtual mainstream with the launch of the Virtual Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour.
The virtual tour, created with local Rouvy agents Virtual Insanity, will feature three stages using a selection of routes of approximately 25km each from the Knysna Cycle tour for riders to experience the beauty of Knysna’s surround while participating remotely. Each stage is approximately 25 km in length with a more detailed description of each here.
Rouvy will make the segments available to ride from 1 July with riders able to ride the three stages at any time of the day or night. You can ride them as many times as you like – maybe you just want to improve your time each ride, or perhaps you want to see if you can ride the stages the most times? You choose! The stages are there for you to challenge yourself in whatever manner suits you.
The official Virtual Knysna Cycle Tour has two elements: the “Challenge” race and “Real Time” race.
The “Challenge” will kick off from 5 July and run to 1 August. Riders will be able to ride the stages as many times as they wish during the 28-day race period to improve their times and climb up the leader board.
The “Real Time” Race
The online “Real Time” race will be run on Saturday 17 July. All riders will start at the same time and race the 25 kilometre stage against each other to the finish line.
As organisers we are very excited about the Virtual Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour offering on Rouvy and encourage you to sign up as soon as possible. EVERYONE who signs up will get two weeks free on the platform – even those not entering the formal races.
To sign up, click here.
We highly recommend that riders sign up sooner rather than later in order to get all their tech gizmo’s talking to Rouvy before the “Challenge” and “Real Time” races kick off.
To take part in the official Virtual Knysna Cycle Tour races a minimum entry donation of R200 is required with the proceeds going to the Rotary Club of Knysna. By making a donation riders qualify for the Rouvy leader board classification and compete for prizes. Results will be posted regularly so you can see how you stack up against the rest of the field – and your mates!

In the week running up to the 2021 Rotary Knysna cycle tour, from 12 to 18 July, we will also be running Road and MTB Strava virtual events in and around Knysna. Join the Knysna Cycle Tour Strava Club to get onto the results board!
Last year’s Knysna Cycle Tour Strava Virtual events showed the road ride from Knysna to Sedgefield and back to be a popular route with some competitive times set. We have therefore made this the local road event for this year’s Strava challenge. See here for route.
Our local MTB route will be run on a competitive basis with participants standing a chance to win prizes and to make a donation to Rotary. The locals will surely know this route and think they have the advantage, but maybe some racing snakes from out of town can show them up! The challenge is on! More details on this route can be found here.
As we will not be able to run a live Kiddies event this year we will also run a Strava challenge for them on the scenic Leisure Island. See the route here.
