- Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour cancelled due to COVID-19
- Knysna Oyster Festival to reconvene in 2021
KNYSNA, South Africa, 09 April 2020 – Knysna Speed Festival, the organiser of the Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour scheduled for 27 and 28 June, regrets to announce that the event, together with the entire Knysna Oyster Festival, has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
With the country in lock-down and the uncertainty surrounding how long this may continue, the Knysna Oyster Festival Management Committee, together with the local municipal authorities, made the difficult decision to not run the event this year and reconvene for 2021.
The Knysna Cycle Tour was supportive of this decision which is in the best interests of the participants, partners, organisers, suppliers and the general public.
“Over the past month, we have been monitoring the status of the novel coronavirus pandemic as events have unfolded internationally and locally and, with the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic on so many fronts, cancelling the 33rd running of the event is in the best interest of all stakeholders and the responsible thing to do,” said Ian Shrosbree, managing director of Knysna Speed Festival. “We acknowledge that those cyclists that have, and those still wanting to, enter the event will be disappointed, but we look forward to hosting them in 2021 when the event and entire Oyster Festival will bounce back better than ever.”
Cyclists that have already entered the event will have the option of migrating their entries to next year’s event at this year’s entry fee, or they can be refunded their entry less an admin fee via the RaceTec system through which they entered the event.
